Dementia Training

Understanding Dementia is a 60-minute course designed to provide you with an overview of dementia and enhance the dementia services you offer. Whether you are a seasoned care partner for those living with dementia or new to this role, the Understanding Dementia course will provide you with relatable and easily understood dementia education. This course was driven by true experts in dementia, the people living with dementia! Learn from members of National Council Dementia Minds as they share insights into how to best support a person living with the disease.

To share more about our partner with the project, we are pleased to introduce the National Council of Dementia Minds (NCDM also known as Dementia Minds). They are the first national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded and governed by persons living with dementia. They embrace the diversity that exists among people living with dementia and include individuals with all types of mild cognitive impairment or dementia, including younger-onset dementias.

NCDM’s groundbreaking mission is to develop and support a national corps of Dementia Minds groups—composed of persons living with dementia—who foster education and dialogue among individuals with neurocognitive disorders, healthcare providers, researchers, families, care partners, policymakers, and communities at large.

NCDM stands out by challenging stigma and offering hope-filled strategies and resources to support living well with dementia. In addition to peer support, we provide education led by persons living with dementia and create resources that empower individuals and allies by demonstrating that life with dementia can be lived fully—with meaning, purpose and connection.

They are dedicated to full inclusion, ensuring that people with dementia have a powerful voice in both personal and public conversations. They believe in the principle “Nothing about us without us,” because they are Lived Experience Experts. We are the experts of our own experiences!

Connections in Care: Understanding Dementia and Beyond Building trust, safety, and comfort for people with complex needs – This course is guided by the lived voices of people who are living with dementia and co-occurring conditions such as mood disorders, anxiety, or traumatic brain injury (TBI). The wisdom shared through these voices shapes every section of the course and reminds you of one essential truth: relationships are the heart of care. In this course, you’ll learn how to build meaningful relationships—relationships that honor identity, respect emotions, and create space for connection in everyday moments.
